Eye level is estimated at about 93.5% of standing height, chin at 87% and shoulders at 82%, based on average adult body proportions. Real faces and posture vary.
How to use the height difference calculator
Enter two heights, pick the shoes each person is wearing and press compare. The calculator shows the difference in centimeters and inches, how much taller one person is in percent, and a quick visual of where the shorter person’s eyes land on the taller one. It works for couples, friends, co-stars or you next to your favorite celebrity.
What different height gaps look like
| Difference | What you notice |
|---|---|
| 0 to 3 cm | Basically the same height, eyes almost level |
| 5 to 8 cm | The shorter person looks at the taller person’s nose or mouth |
| 10 to 15 cm | Eyes reach the chin; a classic couple height gap |
| 20 cm or more | Eyes at shoulder level; hugs land on the chest |
Why shoes change the result
Two people with an 8 cm gap barefoot can look the same height if the shorter one wears heels. That is why celebrity couples so often look closer in height on red carpets than in candid street photos. Add the shoes in the calculator to see what a gap looks like on a night out versus at home.
The eye-level rule of thumb
- Eyes sit at about 93 to 94% of a person’s height
- The chin is around 87%
- Shoulders are about 82%
- So a person 7% shorter than you looks at your chin, roughly
